Dil Bole Hadippa! (2009) is a Hindi sports-drama film, which deals with the story of Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The movie starts off by describing the scenario in the game of Cricket, and goes on to show how Dhoni led his team to victory. Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and produced by UTV Motion Pictures, Dil Bole Hadippa! was released on 18 September 2009. The title word "Dil" translates into "heart", but also means "love". The title word "Bole" translates into "says". Hence, the title Dil Bole Hadippa! is often interpreted as saying "From the heart", or "What he says from his heart", referring to MS Dhoni. The movie begins by showing a cricket match in progress between India and Australia in 2007 which ends up as an Australian defeat. In the dressing room, captain MS Dhoni (Sushant Singh) is informed by coach Gary Kirsten (Jacqueline Fernandez) that he would be replaced as captain by Sourav Ganguly. At a press conference, a journalist asks Dhoni about his views on the news of Sourav Ganguly being appointed as captain for Indian team instead of him. Dhoni tells him that he admires Sourav Ganguly the player, but since he is not the captain, he does not have to make any comment on this issue. The rest of the players are also informed about Ganguly's appointment as new Indian captain. Ashish Nehra (Riteish Deshmukh) tells Dhoni that they should speak to Sourav and congratulate him before making any decision. Dhoni declines saying that they wouldn't be able to meet Sourav in time, and that it would also create problems in team bonding. Dhoni and his teammates decide to punish themselves for not winning the 2007 Cricket World Cup, but they went on to win the 2008 ICC World Twenty20 against West Indies. Dhoni is then appointed as one of the members of a new coaching staff by BCCI, and thinks that he would finally have a chance to lead the Indian team. When Sourav comes to meet him with a bouquet of flowers, he asks Dhoni if he has changed his mind saying that Sourav should be captain as he is more experienced than him. Dhoni declines saying that he wants him as captain as he had given his best as captain all throughout his career. In early 2009, India goes on tour of Australia. Heading into the tour, Dhoni starts complaining about his lack of cricketing strength after a day long practice session, and feels that he has not fully recovered from his injuries. Sourav then says that he should take a vacation for a week to rest and regain his strength, which Dhoni agrees with. After a few days away from the team, he decides to join the training camps as Sourav had requested him to do so. The Indian team is shocked to see Dhoni taking part in training sessions as he had been resting for a few days.
